G.S. Overload, Perhaps?

*
*
Not only did I surprise my Mr. (yep, that be 'im and our wee nipper)
but I walked away with
an antique bed frame, complete
brand spankin' new light fixtures for the homestead
storage thingys that hang in the closet, also brand new
Danny wanted a vase
CJ snapped up fresh baked lemon squares
David, a little planter and cabbage seeds
and the icing on the cake...
*
we're talking about some serious yardage on most of these!
The deep purple/roses below,  over 9 yards!!!!
*
*
Isn't this retro fun flowery?
I have to go back and see if the rest sold or not,
if not then we're going to be dickerin'
*
*
On a side note, never leave your Mr. to pick up said G.S. items. At least not alone.
Why, you may ask.
The skunk went and bought a mini Baja dirt bike for the boys.
Can't say as I blame him though,
he practically stole it!  :)

HAPPY STITCHING AND G.S.ING

Sew, Watcha doin' let's say,

Saturday morning?
How about using this opportunity  that
is handing us (on a silver platter no less) to break away from the mundane "chores"
and tell the family,
"Sorry, but I'm sewing!"
*
*
I mean, with Christmas fast approaching (Thanksgiving for our friends south of the border),
we really need all the poking, prodding and just down right pushing to get er done.
Right?! So how about making this the place to be this Saturday AM.
I hope to see you there!

REMEMBER WHEN...

*
You pulled these out on a rainy/snowy day and just coloured?
*
Have you seen some of the amazing works that have popped up in blogland
using the crayon technique?
I wanted to try this out but was, frankly, worried I was going to screw it up royally.
Wellll...I took the bull by the horns and grabbed a box of my boy's crayons
and coloured!
This is the result
*
*
How fun is this?
*
*
I drew in the shingles and detailed the picture with a fabric marker.
Can you see the difference it makes from the left to the right?
Then I took some black perle cotton and started to randomly hand quilt this piece.
I then stitched in 13 ( for  Halloween, heehee) stars around the picture.
*
*
I think the house was the most fun on this picture but I'm thrilled with the way it turned out.
My DQS partner was very happy too!!
Thank you, Jules!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO ALL!!
PLAY SAFE!

Randomness, a question and a modification

You could say it's been a wee bit damp in these parts,
this "growth" was growing in the front lawn.  The neighbour has all kinds of
mushrooms coming up all over his lawn as well.

It's clouds like this that's been bringing the rain and a few mini funnel clouds.
The cloud bank is starting to descend on the church,
there's a couple of bats living in the church belfry!
Our's is a small village of 170 peeps.
How many peeps live in your village, town, city,
where ever you hang your hat?
*
How's this for really gross?
Does anyone have a suggestion for getting this poor iron cleaned off?
I know it's a mess and maybe it's time to turn this into a paper weight
but I'm hoping I can save it and squeeze a little more life out of her.

*
*
I wanted to share this discovery with you,
it may be a big help to you while quilting!
Do you have a plastic quilting foot for your machine?
Does it have a closed oval/circle where the needle moves through?
Do you find that you can't see your work all that well?
If you cut out part of the plastic from the foot and file the edges smooth
you have a foot that you can actually see where you're going and what you're doing
before and during the time you're quilting. I have found that since I modified my
quilting foot, I have much better control and much better success!
*
Today I'm guiding my foster daughter towards the completion of her very first
doll quilt sew we'll see you later!
Have a stitchin' day!

Getting Things Done in a Timely Fashion

How do you get things finished?
Do you procrastinate or do you roll up your sleeves and get at it?
It's easy to do the first but have you any idea just how much you can get done in,let's say,
15 minutes?
*
Ironically, I was checking out who's doing what this evening and popped in for a visit with
The Fuzzy Hat Quilter and wouldn't you know the topic of the post was"Time"!
Sew, I grabbed the button and I'm joining in,
*
I might even get in an extra 15 here & there!
*
I've been utilizing the "Madame Samm" way of time management with my
trusty chicken above. It's a real eye opener and on the first day
of using this technique I found and extra 1-1/2 hours and my bathroom was spotless
and the linen closet had been sorted (I've been so putting this off) as well as my carpets vacuumed,
kitchen floor washed, the beds made, supper on the go, a load of laundry in the dishes washed!
Not bad since I was finished at 1:30 this afternoon and had my sewing time/me time
until 3:00 when the school bus dropped off my kiddos!
Not bad, eh?
*
So there you have it,
a couple of ways to gain a little time each day or whenever you need it!

I chose this beauty for my Hubby

It's from Mr. Henry Glass and I love it. I can't wait to start gathering the flannels
for this quilt, all in harvest like colours, like wearing a pumpkin pie  =D

I also picked this for myself

Garden Grove by Kim Diehl @ Henry Glass's House.
It's very pretty and has some elements I haven't tried yet.

Sewing Spools Sniffling

*
The last couple of days have seen me a tad unwell.
I caught a flippin' cold, yip-eeee!
Not what I wanted to do right at the end of summer nor as the impending school year approaches.
It only took 2 weeks into the school year last year and all the kids had a sniffle to a cough to one staying home for a couple of days. The house could just not shake whatever it was for months.
Poor hubby spent last Christmas flat on his back, 2 weeks later, just when I was suppose to start a mystery quilt along I came down with it and was in bed for almost a week and then couldn't do much more than sit in my chair and watch TV for another week. What an ordeal, so here's hoping this goes and fast!
*
Now about the pic up there. I had read/seen somewhere a post on spool blocks and thought that they are quite cute, sew what's a girl to do but dive right in and this happened!
It still needs to be finished but I didn't have anything else to post about without having my wits about me!
luvin' the dots!

OKay, this one's a little wonky,

this spool has even more wonk to it but I like it.

I like the floral print for the thread on this spool.
It's funny, try as I might I could not get my head around anyone's tutorial for these
sew...I winged it! Yep, I just started pulling fabrics from my stash and sewed them together.
Yes, I know, that explains the wonky-ness to them but you know,
I still like it and I'm still going to put this mini on my  wall of fame!
*
You've probably seen this button/logo popping up all over the place since Saturday/Sunday

Well if you haven't checked it out you should because there are at last count
>146 GIVEAWAYS<
that's right, your eyes are not deceiving you!!!
See this button in my sidebar? or better yet back up to my post from the 25th and start
HOPPING!!!
*
Here's another button you'll be seeing sooooon...
I got lucky enough to be included in this spooktacularly
WICKED BLOG HOP
hosted by the ever so wonderful
Wendy @ Why Knot Kwilt & the amazing Madame Samm.
There could still be space for the WICKED BLOG HOP,
jump on your broomstick and fly over to Wendy's to find out!
*
One more thing I'd like to bring to your attention today if I may,

This button is also in my sidebar and I'd like to invite you, yes you, to join our group.
At this time we are 35 members strong but we would like to invite all quilters,
beginners, new bloggers and seasoned stitchers to meet some of the nicest folks blogland has to offer!
You don't have to have dolls to make doll quilts{I don't} I just like to hang these mini works of art on my wall in my sewing space. I find doll quilts are a fabulous way to try something new on a small scale and be able to complete it in a short time. It doesn't cost to join either like some I've seen.
Just click the button in my SB and your on your way. Believe me, if it wasn't easy to join I wouldn't have!
If you jump in now you might be able to get in on the September Swap {not entirely sure about this}.
Hope to see you at the next  DOLL QUILT SWAP.

HAPPY HOPPING & SWAPPING EVERYONE

Have you met Sandie?

I think this pup was hoping to roast that "dog" right where it lies.
*
There has been no reprieve from this weather save for two nights of having to actually hide under the covers.
*
I did manage to get the backing sewn together for my
Great Granny Along quilt and since there was so much of the pink floral
I decided that it was perfect.
I'm not a huge fan of pink so on the back of a quilt is just fine.
If you're wondering why I bought it in the first place
5+ meters for $4.99!
'nuf said, right?
*
I also have my quilties finished for the next round with the incomparable and very talented
Sandie of Sandra Kaye Designs.
Have you popped in for a visit over at Sandie's blog?
How about checking out and clicking to join in the fun with Sandie's
Quiltie Swap?
Every other month we are given a theme and we can take that and run with it to create
4 ~  4" x 6" QUILTIES
everyone mails their 4 QUILTIES to Sandie {including a SASE}
and when all the quilties for that month have arrived Sandie distributes 3 QUILTIES
back to each participant. Sandie keeps one QUILTIE in exchange for the return postage!
It's  fun waiting to receive your package, opening it up to see the  postcard
size creations from all over the world that have arrived.

These are just a few QUILTIES that I've received

I've got pics of more but I can't locate them in my computer just now.

I really like the Christmas themed ones

Sandie's next theme is "monochromatic" due October 15th.
I hope you pop in to see Sandie's blog
and maybe I'll be swapping QUILTIES with you soon!
