October NewFOs

*
*
October saw a flurry of activity in more ways than one!
*
Not only did this month find me stitching up BLOG HOP blocks.
*

*
It's the 31st and I'm going to be trying to get the bindings on my 4 blocks today!
*
*
But my hubster gave me a one week heads up that we were taking a flying trip to Alberta
to see my Dad and our Grandkids!
Well I certainly wasn't going empty handed...sew
I sewed and stitched and growled and cursed, I posted about my dilemma and some of the
best of the best blogging buddies came to my rescue to get the quilting completed on 2 quilts.
*
*
Grandson's flimsy
*
*
Granddaughter's flimsy
*
*
Here's the OTHER  flurry for October (this is still on the ground and there's more falling).
I'm sure hubster is growling while he's clearing snow and building a hill for the kids!
*
*
I wonder what Bullet is thinking about the snow?
*
HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!
BE SAFE!!

REMEMBER WHEN...

*
You pulled these out on a rainy/snowy day and just coloured?
*
Have you seen some of the amazing works that have popped up in blogland
using the crayon technique?
I wanted to try this out but was, frankly, worried I was going to screw it up royally.
Wellll...I took the bull by the horns and grabbed a box of my boy's crayons
and coloured!
This is the result
*
*
How fun is this?
*
*
I drew in the shingles and detailed the picture with a fabric marker.
Can you see the difference it makes from the left to the right?
Then I took some black perle cotton and started to randomly hand quilt this piece.
I then stitched in 13 ( for  Halloween, heehee) stars around the picture.
*
*
I think the house was the most fun on this picture but I'm thrilled with the way it turned out.
My DQS partner was very happy too!!
Thank you, Jules!
*
*
HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO ALL!!
PLAY SAFE!

Do You Believe?

*
Some of you may remember this gal.
I had her on a post that was about bird nesting and backlash due to
my sewing machine having an extremely bad case of
"BUGGERED STITCHING" or "B.S." for short.(wink)
*
For those of you that have been lucky enough not to have experienced this
phenomenon with your sewing machine, this is what it looks like.
This is the back of a quilt for my Granddaughter,
*
*
see the mess of thread (pretty bad, isn't it?).
No matter how many times I re-threaded, ripped out, re-stitched, ripped out, re...
you get the picture?!
After the post, I had so many fantastic friends share their solutions with me that I was able to
complete both my Grandkids quilts!
Thank you all so very much!
*
The way I fixed the problem  was to cut out a small circle of
sew-in interfacing and place it in the bobbin case first
then my bobbin!! No more headaches!!
I may give the teflon discs a try yet but since I'm 45 minutes from the nearest retailer,
this solution was spot on!
*
You don't want to miss the next 3 days of the
Wicked Blog Hop.

My first block is from a paper piece pattern by
I just kicked it up a notch with the wonky borders!
Hello, "Jack~OH~Lantern"!

*
Next, is another of Sonja's designs...
what would Halloween be without the
"Meowing Mistress of the Night"

*
This "Wayward Witch" is also Sonja's pattern,
this gal is shooting for the stars on her Nimbus 2000
unfortunately she's not handling the altitude all that well and is a little green
about the gills, poor Deary!

*
The final offering is one of my own designs!
Yes, indeed!
Hey, that feels pretty darn great to say that it's "my design"!
*
May I present,
*
"SPIDERELLA"
*
She's  ready to get "Wicked" and have "Fun"
(note the blood red lippy Spiderella is wearing),
it helps to enhance her pearly white fangs, don't you think?
Yes, Spiderella will be the bell of the ball,
especially since she ate her competition!
Mwahahahahah

Let's not forget that Halloween is all about 'Tricks or Treats"
and since I don't have any more tricks, that just leaves
TREATS of the GIVEAWAY kind, right?

Thursday 18 October 2012

Look Out...I'm ready to EXPLODE!!

Excuse me for this but
I am so pissed off right now I'm about ready to scream
or throw my machine out the front door!
*
"Why, Carolyn, what's the matter?"
you maybe asking.
*
This! This has been happening for the past three hours!
I quilt along, everything is fine then all of a sudden my machine
(whose name is Mud, right now) starts this.
Out comes the GrimRipper and we spend some time together.
I rethread, check bobbin case, take any little bit of fuzz and pluck it out,
say a prayer and try again.

Just when I'm feeling rather confident and think that,
"Yes, I will have this ready to take on Monday to my Granddaughter"!
Wait for it....
more of the same!!! Grrrrr!!!
I have a question for those in the know,
do the BOBBIN WASHERS help eliminate this from happening?

Tuesday 16 October 2012

1 = 10 NO! REALLY it does...

Instead of being  this guy
all you have to do is click here for the answer!

Tell them sew.darn.quilt (that's me) sent you

We're going when?

*
My hubster threw me for a loop on Saturday,
he asked if I wanted to drive out to see my Dad next week?
Seeing my Dad also means we will be visiting our grandkids!
We will be seeing our granddaughter, Payton, for the very first time no less!
Well we certainly can't go empty handed so Grans starts hunting through her
stash and found these flannels that needed to go on a trip! So, I got to it!
Cutting, sewing, cutting, sewing...all this in less than 2 1/2 hours!

for this technique that I learned from Cindy  :O)
*
*
HAPPY STITCHING!!!
