Ravenwood Whimzies Pin Keep Swap & VMSS Giveaway Day 21

I joined a swap that was in a genre new to me this fall at Ravenwood Whimzies.
Wendy partnered me up with a wonderful gal,
Kathie of  Beyond the Storybook. Just look at what Kathie gifted me with:

the theme was "Winter" and Kathie created this Snowbaby Pin Keep.
She's so pretty.
Next,

was this dude! We found that we both find Halloween our second favourite holiday.
That being said we toyed with a slight divergence from the swap theme but then thought better of it but still ended up sending each other a devilish pin keep as well.
Those pins in his head are bats! Terrific fun!
Next,

Kathie wrapped the pin keep in fabrics and added all these goodies,
the wreath is made from puzzle pieces!
Next,

this treasure box! I've just started to delve into mixed media art and Kathie has a Mixed Media Group that I have since joined. She thought that I could use some goodies for upcoming challenges and swaps within our group. So,

this box was filled with all these artful goodies!
You totally knocked me for a loop, Kathie!

Thank you so much for everything.
Thank you Wendy for partnering me with Kathie, we have quickly become great friends.
*

This is my swap gift to Kathie for the theme "Winter"!
A Snowman Pin Keep sporting earmuffs.

Perched on another pincushion attached to a bedspring.

He covered in glitter and has glass beads for his buttons and eyes.
A little bit of the Tim Burton thing going on with his mouth but it's all good!
Next,

is my turn at our secret hats off to Halloween!
I started  making these top hats and quickly became addicted.

One thing lead to another and this guy was born.
I had to laugh about the bat pins, Kathie and I never discussed specifics but ended up making these for each other!

I had a great time with this swap and am so glad I took that step to try something different.

2013 and NO RE-DO Button

*
*
A new year of starts...
finishes  ( I hope ),
something brand new,
something from the past...
of old friends and
new faces :)
of BLOG HOPS and swaps,
maybe a swap of my own in there too
and let's not forget the giveaways as well.
*
It's been one heck of a year!
Our granddaughter was born,
our grandniece too,
our family lost a baby as well,
 friends have receive distressful news.
*
We've read about the tragedies of 2012,
so senseless
and the triumphs that are so rewarding.
*
A new year may give us a chance to renew ourselves,
our thinking,
our dreams, hopes and wishes.
Renew our faith in mankind.
Renew, recharge, regain since there's no re-do button!
*
My word for 2013 is
"RENEW"
*

HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

100 Day Hustle Results

*
Wow!! It's hard to believe that 100 days are soon to have passed since I signed up to join
the other Hustlers in getting their UFOs completed in 2012!
Time flies for some and stands still for others.
There's been so much happen in those 100 days, at times, it's been
incomprehensible.
*
*
I found my list changing constantly over the allotted time given but I still did accomplish some of my list, all be it very little.
*
"Laundry Day" is finished and on our bed,

*

Pillowcases for the students of Sandy Hook School in Newton
*
This Blanket Of Love is finished and awaits delivery to the hospital.

My entry for Madame Samm's Holiday Lane Pillow Blog Hop

*
As you can see, my dent in my list was minimal but I was keeping busy.
I've decided to put my whirlygiggle back in the cupboard, it's one of those quilts that I'm just not feeling "it" !
I tried getting a new bag made but I can't decide on fabrics, sew I'll just bide my time.
I do have another quilt made of Mill House Inn pinned and ready to go under the needle.
Maybe today but we'll see, I've been bitten by a cold bug or something :(
As for Great Granny, she's slated for completion by Valentine's Day!

REMEMBER WHEN...

*
You pulled these out on a rainy/snowy day and just coloured?
*
Have you seen some of the amazing works that have popped up in blogland
using the crayon technique?
I wanted to try this out but was, frankly, worried I was going to screw it up royally.
Wellll...I took the bull by the horns and grabbed a box of my boy's crayons
and coloured!
This is the result
*
*
How fun is this?
*
*
I drew in the shingles and detailed the picture with a fabric marker.
Can you see the difference it makes from the left to the right?
Then I took some black perle cotton and started to randomly hand quilt this piece.
I then stitched in 13 ( for  Halloween, heehee) stars around the picture.
*
*
I think the house was the most fun on this picture but I'm thrilled with the way it turned out.
My DQS partner was very happy too!!
Thank you, Jules!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO ALL!!
PLAY SAFE!

Sewing Spools Sniffling

*
The last couple of days have seen me a tad unwell.
I caught a flippin' cold, yip-eeee!
Not what I wanted to do right at the end of summer nor as the impending school year approaches.
It only took 2 weeks into the school year last year and all the kids had a sniffle to a cough to one staying home for a couple of days. The house could just not shake whatever it was for months.
Poor hubby spent last Christmas flat on his back, 2 weeks later, just when I was suppose to start a mystery quilt along I came down with it and was in bed for almost a week and then couldn't do much more than sit in my chair and watch TV for another week. What an ordeal, so here's hoping this goes and fast!
*
Now about the pic up there. I had read/seen somewhere a post on spool blocks and thought that they are quite cute, sew what's a girl to do but dive right in and this happened!
It still needs to be finished but I didn't have anything else to post about without having my wits about me!
luvin' the dots!

OKay, this one's a little wonky,

this spool has even more wonk to it but I like it.

I like the floral print for the thread on this spool.
It's funny, try as I might I could not get my head around anyone's tutorial for these
sew...I winged it! Yep, I just started pulling fabrics from my stash and sewed them together.
Yes, I know, that explains the wonky-ness to them but you know,
I still like it and I'm still going to put this mini on my  wall of fame!
*
You've probably seen this button/logo popping up all over the place since Saturday/Sunday

Well if you haven't checked it out you should because there are at last count
>146 GIVEAWAYS<
that's right, your eyes are not deceiving you!!!
See this button in my sidebar? or better yet back up to my post from the 25th and start
HOPPING!!!
*
Here's another button you'll be seeing sooooon...
I got lucky enough to be included in this spooktacularly
WICKED BLOG HOP
hosted by the ever so wonderful
Wendy @ Why Knot Kwilt & the amazing Madame Samm.
There could still be space for the WICKED BLOG HOP,
jump on your broomstick and fly over to Wendy's to find out!
*
One more thing I'd like to bring to your attention today if I may,

This button is also in my sidebar and I'd like to invite you, yes you, to join our group.
At this time we are 35 members strong but we would like to invite all quilters,
beginners, new bloggers and seasoned stitchers to meet some of the nicest folks blogland has to offer!
You don't have to have dolls to make doll quilts{I don't} I just like to hang these mini works of art on my wall in my sewing space. I find doll quilts are a fabulous way to try something new on a small scale and be able to complete it in a short time. It doesn't cost to join either like some I've seen.
Just click the button in my SB and your on your way. Believe me, if it wasn't easy to join I wouldn't have!
If you jump in now you might be able to get in on the September Swap {not entirely sure about this}.
Hope to see you at the next  DOLL QUILT SWAP.
