My First Conquest of 2016

I finally conquered my silly fear of  C.U.R.V.E.S.!!!
*
*
Having been away from my sewing machine for a while I decided, as a reintroduction, to try something new to me.  The dreaded curve.
It all started because I was re~reading Clare O'Donohue's, The Drunkard's Path. Every time I picked up the book that design was there, mocking me. I jumped online to see just how to construct a Drunkard's Path and found that there are many ways to lay out the blocks! The options are endless.
*
*
Since this was a first attempt, keeping the projects on the small side might be prudent idea. Foxy and Carli (who played camera shy today) thought it was a good plan too, they both received a new flannel bed cushion and I no longer fear curves!

Win/Win

Until next time ~

Pieces of Me

My Dad & I,  this past October. He's 85 and going strong!
Below are Phil, Danny & CJ at the Drumheller valley edge.
It's been so long since I've been here that I almost forgot how to post!
(I will admit that I'm finding myself at a bit of a loss for words.)
*
I have pieced a couple of quilts over the past few months but I only have pics of this one.
I believe it's Buggy Barn for the backing.
I hope some of you are still around out there,
I'd like to reconnect and gain some advice!

See you soon :)

Snowman, chickens, Halloween and a giveaway!

This is what I've been up to of late.

A challenge with my Mixed Media Studio Group,
Frosty on skis!

Gift of the Week, also with my group!
These chickens can be pin cushions and/or Christmas decorations.
I added miniscule pom poms and felt leaves for holly and ivy.

A reminder this is day 17 of
click to see what Santa Nancy has for us today.

Finally. a salute to Halloween (yes I know it's all said and done for 2014) however,
I wanted to share my first, and by no means last, pin keep on a bedspring with you. I had a blast making this from the construction of the top hat to the bat pins. My guys think it's pretty awesome too!

Don't miss out on BLOGATHON CANADA BY SEW SISTERS there are many giveaways!
AND
THE FINAL DAY OF TWAS THE NIGHT HOP/SWAP
WITH MARLENE AND MADAME SAMM.

HAPPY STITCHING :)

X's and Z's

The "X's" for an upcoming event.

and now for the
"Z's".....

Shhhhh,
10 minutes after I put the final stitch in  her new bed little Miss zonked right out!
(note that Foxy has her own quilt too).
If you're wondering what's with the shaved belly peeking out there,
it's due to her spaying.

Danny + Carli =  Cuddle Time!

HAPPY STITCHING  :)

We've got mice!!

The cooler weather has been driving the mice in already here and let's just say that
"evidence of said creatures" was found last week in our bathroom and kitchen.
So, we decided to rescue a young cat from the Prince Albert SPCA and came home with this clown!
Carli.

Here she is hamming it up for the outstanding staff at the SPCA.

Too funny! And those whiskers and eyes are amazing.
Well hubster said "while we're here let's have a look at the dogs."
Our beautiful Bullet passed away in May and it's been hard for me with the house so empty since the boys have gone back to school.
This little girl had not been put on the SPCA website yet and never will.
Both Fiona the Fox (aka Foxy) and Carli came home with us Thursday.
I think Bullet would approve.

HAPPY STITCHING :)

Purge Finish

It may not have been what I was striving for but I did finish one of the three quilts
I had intended for Stitched In Color's PURGE.

This is the largest quilt I have ever completed and it made a nice dent in my scraps.
It measures 70" x 80", a monster for my books!
I wanted a size that kept my foster son covered even when he's been rolling all over the place in his sleep!  This bad boy will do just that.

I thought quilting this big guy was going to be a problem but nothing could be further from the truth!
It all came together nicely.

The back is a collective of large scraps and a small quilt top that I just couldn't get excited about no matter how hard I tried. So in the spirit of being frugal (not cheap), I added the not so loved quilt.

One down and 2 more, this size, to go!
But first I'm in the middle of constructing a special something for a new arrival tomorrow ;)
Check back then.

Kinda says it all!

*
My past last two weeks have read like this.
Phil and pneumonia (he's feeling much better now),
CJ with a very bad cold (just a few sniffles left)
and
myself, cold and flu (starting to come around).
Hence, not much stitching :(
*
This morning...a balmy -23C.
In like a lion, out like a lamb. eh?! BULL!!

Thumbing Our Noses

My boys were home yet again as school buses were not running Monday with the -44C temps.
To keep them a little on the busy side, they put together this greenhouse of sorts.
*
*
My oldest had brought a plant home from school last year and was very proud of the fact that it had grown to 14", it was just getting so "all stalk with a tuft of leaves" looking.
I suggested it was high time to try and gain control of the situation before the poor coleus met it's maker. So with the weather at it's worst (again) I dug out an old fish aquarium, cleaned it out, checked the lights (Yay! they work) and the boys proceeded to add action figures and the like.
CJ added some of his drawings along with Dan's as a background!
They have some orange seeds in here as well that are just starting to sprout!
So Old Man Winter,
we
 choose
 to

and bring some green into our scene!
Tomorrow, some stitching pictures.

A Scarf, A Loan & A Van??

Last Thursday I was having to run down to the bank, in -35C weather on foot.

Our truck has been giving us major issues these past few weeks, a new to us vehicle was eminent.
Unfortunately, so was a  walk to the bank for me. UGH!!
I love the winter as long as I'm inside and warm and my family is the same,
I detest being in cold temps and having to get a loan on top of the cold weather at this time of year,
was a major BUMMER!
Long story short, I nearly froze my ears off so I dug out this yarn and am knitting up an

infinity scarf for myself!
Pretty, no?

Oh, yes...
our new ~ to ~ us van!
