Pieces of Me

My Dad & I,  this past October. He's 85 and going strong!
Below are Phil, Danny & CJ at the Drumheller valley edge.
It's been so long since I've been here that I almost forgot how to post!
(I will admit that I'm finding myself at a bit of a loss for words.)
*
I have pieced a couple of quilts over the past few months but I only have pics of this one.
I believe it's Buggy Barn for the backing.
I hope some of you are still around out there,
I'd like to reconnect and gain some advice!

See you soon :)

Purge Finish

It may not have been what I was striving for but I did finish one of the three quilts
I had intended for Stitched In Color's PURGE.

This is the largest quilt I have ever completed and it made a nice dent in my scraps.
It measures 70" x 80", a monster for my books!
I wanted a size that kept my foster son covered even when he's been rolling all over the place in his sleep!  This bad boy will do just that.

I thought quilting this big guy was going to be a problem but nothing could be further from the truth!
It all came together nicely.

The back is a collective of large scraps and a small quilt top that I just couldn't get excited about no matter how hard I tried. So in the spirit of being frugal (not cheap), I added the not so loved quilt.

One down and 2 more, this size, to go!
But first I'm in the middle of constructing a special something for a new arrival tomorrow ;)
Check back then.

Ho Hum Tweedle Dum

*
*
This was yesterday, Bullet patiently waiting for spring.
No, that's not an icicle hanging from her lip, she's
getting a little older and this end leaks every once in a while!
(Better than the other end!!)
*
HOWEVER,
today is a different story and scene!
*
This is the same doorway that was void of snow less than 12 hours ago!
How's that for accumulation? Note,
no pup sitting, watching the world today!
She's snoring away at the moment.
*
HOWEVER,
*
*
I am pleased to report that progress is being made!
WOOHOO!!!
This quilt is not leaving my machine until it is fin.
Maybe this afternoon?
*
HOWEVER,
*
*
This needs to be dealt with (ugh)...
I found it under a pile of fabric along with my near complete PIFs!

My Oldest with My Latest...

This is the first of the next bundle of kiddie quilts for the womens' shelter.
My oldest, "D", volunteered for pics
(he was battling the wind)

and I was not winning with the sun
(sorry about the crappy shot).
As you can see I mixed the quilting on this one,
straight lines on the green solid
and
free motion on the print.
The backing is a bright yellow floral print on flannel.
On to the next for the
100 QUILTS for KIDS

I made it and just under the wire for Ellison Lane's

Here's my entry
"Scrap Shots"

Created from all cotton scraps with a meandering design on the white borders
and I added the leaf motif  in the 21/2" border.
This wall hanging measures 16" x 16"

Ever have one of those days?

You know the ones!
Like trying to get through the door first but get your head stuck, kinda day!
Yesterday was my turn at everything going wrong, or so it seemed
or should I say (sew it seamed)?
Pretty bad, I know!
I woke up feeling punky and should have taken my cue from there.
I should have known better than to attempt to quilt one of the charity quilts.
What could go wrong? It's not like it's a large quilt, just baby size.
It's not like I haven't quilted before, although you'd never know that.
Meet my best friend, Ms.Ripper!
Yes, we spent alot of time together yesterday, alot of time indeed!
We engaged in quite a bit of conversation,
alot of back and forth banter!
Let's not forget the few many choice words.

This is the reason for all my frustration!
How is it that you can be quilting along tickity-boo and then
Wham!
this crap starts happening?
I rethreaded, I replaced my bobbin, I rethreaded again, I grumbled, I growled
and then the real kick in the head!
I changed machines and thought that'll fix you, you *******!
Guess what?
Same problem!
YEP!!! I couldn't believe it!
In the end I decided to listen to my machines and walk away.
Boy Howdy,
you've got love those days.
HOPE YOUR DAY IS A GREAT ONE!
HUGS...

Mini Mug Rug

I'm still practicing my leaf design and thought of something on a little bit smaller scale.
My teacup needed a new place to rest so there you have it!

I know,
I still need to keep practicing

Next up is a couple of quilts for our much anticipated  Granddaughter :)
My SIL scored some of this fabric for me from a gal in Alberta that had to clear out her stash!

It's going to be perfect!

My little table runner is all finished.
My youngest brought home from school the mini pumpkin, much to CJ's delight!
I love this pint size vampire and the squares with the ghosts, stars, moons and eyes actually
glow in the dark!

Free Motion or Straight Lines?

What is your favourite type of quilting?

Do you like the freedom of Free Motion or are you more of a straight lines kinda quilter?
Usually I quilt with fm in mind but  right now I'm stepping out of my comfort zone with straight lines in a chevron design  on my son's quilt. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well.

For a great tutorial on Free Motion check out AmandaJean at Crazy Mom Quilts .
She was my "go to" gal for help with this technique!!

I named this quilt "Red Poppies" for a little sweetie.
