2013 and NO RE-DO Button

*
*
A new year of starts...
finishes  ( I hope ),
something brand new,
something from the past...
of old friends and
new faces :)
of BLOG HOPS and swaps,
maybe a swap of my own in there too
and let's not forget the giveaways as well.
*
It's been one heck of a year!
Our granddaughter was born,
our grandniece too,
our family lost a baby as well,
 friends have receive distressful news.
*
We've read about the tragedies of 2012,
so senseless
and the triumphs that are so rewarding.
*
A new year may give us a chance to renew ourselves,
our thinking,
our dreams, hopes and wishes.
Renew our faith in mankind.
Renew, recharge, regain since there's no re-do button!
*
My word for 2013 is
"RENEW"
*

HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

100 Day Hustle Results

*
Wow!! It's hard to believe that 100 days are soon to have passed since I signed up to join
the other Hustlers in getting their UFOs completed in 2012!
Time flies for some and stands still for others.
There's been so much happen in those 100 days, at times, it's been
incomprehensible.
*
*
I found my list changing constantly over the allotted time given but I still did accomplish some of my list, all be it very little.
*
"Laundry Day" is finished and on our bed,

*

Pillowcases for the students of Sandy Hook School in Newton
*
This Blanket Of Love is finished and awaits delivery to the hospital.

*
My entry for Madame Samm's Holiday Lane Pillow Blog Hop

My December DQS with Wilma
*

October's DQS with Jules, I used the crayon technique on this and just love the way it turned out!
*

Quilties for December (my final quiltie swap )
*

Snowmen coasters and pot mats for both giveaways and my Etsy Shop
*

Pillowcases for us (got on a bit of a roll here)
have you sewn up pcs? Try the tube method by
*
As you can see, my dent in my list was minimal but I was keeping busy.
I've decided to put my whirlygiggle back in the cupboard, it's one of those quilts that I'm just not feeling "it" !
I tried getting a new bag made but I can't decide on fabrics, sew I'll just bide my time.
I do have another quilt made of Mill House Inn pinned and ready to go under the needle.
Maybe today but we'll see, I've been bitten by a cold bug or something :(
As for Great Granny, she's slated for completion by Valentine's Day!

My Rainbow Scrap Challenge Inspiration

*
Have you heard about
 and the
2013 RAINBOW SCRAP CHALLENGE?
Truly, I must have been living under a rock or on another planet!
*
The premise is to, over the course of the year, sew up a scrappy quilt of your choice
and be motivated by the other scrap busters joining in!
I have never committed to anything like this before and I do have alot of scraps that leave me
scratching my head as to what to do with them.
This is what I'm going to stitch up, I just love this quilt.
*
*
It's called "Northwinds" or "Corn and Beans".
No, your eyes aren't going wonky it just looks like it...way cool ( I think ).
It's mind bending!
*
This particular quilt is from
This is a real testimony as to what can happen when a bunch of
not-sew-attractive fabrics are combined resulting in this treasure!
*
I can't wait to get started!
*
What are your plans for 2013's sewing list?

And We're Back...but there's a glitch

*

*
We did it,
we braved the -31C with winds,
we braved the crowds, there were certainly more folks out compared to other years,
and we rolled into bed at 4:30 this morning only to have about 3 hours of sleep.
The only thing that totally escapes me,
and this could have some close connection to
grocery shopping at 2:00 in the morning,
*
*
was we /I forgot the turkey!
Yep! Completely forgot until we were more than
halfway home! Mr was going to go back into the city on Monday to pick up my gift
and a turkey..."honey, that's a great idea however it's still going to  be frozen
Christmas morn!"
So off to the local grocer, with fingers crossed, this morning that they still had a gobbler!
YES!!! The last one!
*
Merry Christmas and happy turkey hunting

Gone Shopping!

*
Yep ' Mr & I are braving the crowds and the -31C temperatures!
We're off to do our all night Christmas shopping marathon!
Wish me luck!
*
*
Enjoy your day "cuz you know I will have my moments, I'm not a crowd lovin' kinda gal.
I never like to be pressed for time and Mr does this every year,
you'd think I'd have learnt by now?
Sheeesh!

Christmas Stocking Hang Out entry

I'm letting it all hang out this year, Santa!
*

QUILTING LINES is having a Stocking good time!
Click and go check it out.
*
My stocking is one that I made a couple of years ago but have kept it under wraps,
don't ask me why?
*
*
Over the years I've made a few attempts at stockings with results that had weird feet or short legs,
more like an ankle stocking, who needs patterns right?
Yeah! I guess I do!
Finally, after my husband's  last discerning look at my attempt, I made a pattern
and stuck with it!
18" from loop to toe and 6 1/2" across the top, he's happy ~ I'm happy he's happy!
Finally!!
*
WISHING YOU A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS
AND
A HAPPY NEW YEAR

NEWFO 2013 WISH TO - DO LIST

*

*
This is the kick off  to 2013 Newfo Challenge brought to you by
Cat Patches!
(isn't this button the cutest)?
Once again, Barb is hosting this fun challenge to all quilters. If your a quilter
that loves to start and not necessarily finish projects then this is THE place to be!
WHY?
"Starting" is the entire idea driving this challenge and the  best part is
you don't have to finish a thing! Zip! Nada! Zilch!
*
This tear I'm going to try to focus on a few key projects with something completely
new to me. For instance,
*

*
I'd like to try a Cathedral Windows Quilt or something with curves.
*
I've just finished reading The Devil's Puzzle by Clare O'Donohue and in the book there
is reference to this quilt design,
The Devil's Puzzle
*

*
Next on my list (in my head) is something modern, circles or a geometric design.
I need to find some ideas for this one yet.
*

*
After seeing some of the most beautiful hand stitching by my blogging buddy Susan,
who is the  Canadian Abroad, I am wanting to give this a try as well this year.
*
*
Susan's stitching is amazing!
Look at the back of this piece...exquisite!
*
*
I'm going to be sorting my scraps for Rainbow Scrap Challenge @ So Scrappy
starting in the new year!
*
*
So that's the start of my 2013 "Wish to - do List" but first I really should try to get
my Laundry Day Quilt quilted, (tomorrow may be promising for that). I haven't finished
a quilt around here for a while and the Mr. has been asking when am I getting another quilt done
for our bed since it's been so flippin' cold and damp here on the Canadian prairies!
Hey! I'm game and since he did ask so nicely  ;)

Let's Sew Pillowcases for SANDY HOOK STUDENTS

*
I have felt, like so many of you, so sick about the tragic events that unfolded at
Sandy Hook School so when
Thimblemouse & Spouse sent me an email telling me about
PILLOWCASES FOR SANDY HOOK SCHOOL
I knew it was some small comfort I might be able to bring a child hurting.
They would like 600 pillowcases!
They don't take long to make, there are lots of easy tutorials!
Check out this tutorial from Missouri Star Quilt Co. !

O Tannenbaum, O Tannenbaum

*
How lovely are your branches...
*
is having a Christmas Tree Contest,
but you have to hurry to enter!
*
This is our humble ode to Christmas. For the life of me I cannot get the picture toned down.
Yes, it's been taken in the evening but you get the idea.
*
*
My heart is heavy with the tragedy that has befallen so many at this time of year,
may the spirit of the season bring you peace and comfort.
The world weeps with you.

Do You French?

*
Ooo lala!!! Va Va Voom!
Oui?
*
Get you minds out of the gutter...honestly!
I'm talking about FRENCH SEAMS people!!
Aren't these so neat and tidy? I love to french...my seams! Sheesh!!
Every seam inside this sucker is frenched, no fraying going on here!
*
*
I've been antsy today to start and finish s-o-m-e-t-h-i-n-g,
I just wasn't sure what though. Then it hit me,
PILLOWCASES.
I have never sewn one before and I know they're not hard to make,
sew I did!
I found a 1 meter cut of this sports fabric in my stash that I'd long forgotten about
and
voila!
CJ, my soccer player, has a new place to rest his head on tonight.
*
*
Try as I might I could not get the proper shade of orange on Photoscape today
I won this fabric in the fall from her and the colour is a gorgeous, saturated shade that I simply can't capture on my monitor :(
Trust me though it totally rocks with the flames on this pillowcase!
*
*
HAPPY STITCHING ;)
